Gifted and Talented
The Rose Bud School District Gifted and Talented Program offers a differentiated curriculum to students.
All students in kindergarten through third grade meet with Mrs. Clark, the GT teachers, for one hour per week for enrichment. Enrichment classes aim to assist students with the different thinking processes. Students will learn about and use divergent thinking, convergent thinking, visual thinking, and evaluative thinking. They will learn about fluency, flexibility, originality, and elaboration. Students will learn to be problem solvers using a variety of methods.
Identified GT students in grades four through six will meet with Mrs. Clark for a minimum of 150 minutes per week in a pull-out class. This class will focus on research-based learning, creativity, and critical thinking. Events at this level include the White County Spelling Bee, the Wilbur D. Mills Fall and Spring Chess Tournaments, as well as the Wilbur D. Mills Elementary Quiz Bowl Tournament.
Identified GT students in grades seven through twelve are served through pre-AP and AP classes at the high school which are taught by state approved and trained pre-AP and AP teachers. All other content class teachers have also been trained and approved to serve a differentiated curriculum to gifted students. GT students at this level will also meet quarterly with Mrs. Clark for an enrichment lesson and are encouraged to participate in the Wilbur D. Mills Fall and Spring Chess Tournaments. GT students in grades 7 and 8 are also eligible to participate in the White County Spelling Bee.
