The Gifted and Talented Program and Rose Bud Public Schools is an academic program. To screen students for the program, we consider academic ability, motivation, and creativity. For academic ability, we consider achievement test scores, IQ test scores, the Renzulli Scale, and the Raven's Standard Progressive Matrices scores. For motivation we consider the Renzulli Scale, a teacher evaluation, and a parent evaluation. For creativity, we consider the Renzulli Scale and the William's Test of Divergent Thinking Assessment.
A screening committee of not less than 5 professional educators chaired by the Gifted and Talented Program Administrator is assembled to consider the data of tested students' academic ability, motivation, and creativity. Committee members are looking for students who consistently score in the above average areas however one score alone will not cause a student to be kept from being placed in the program nor will one score alone allow placement of a student in the program.
In an effort to ensure that no student is overlooked in the Rose Bud School District for possible GT placement, students may be referred by any of the following methods:
students, parents, teachers, community members, a score at the 77th percentile on any content sub test on a norm-referenced exam, or a score of advanced on the criterion-reference portion of an augmented exam.
Upon referral, a notice will be sent home to parents or guardians requesting permission to test for possible placement. Once testing is complete and the screening committee has made program selections, a notice will be sent to parents or guardians with placement decision results. If your child is chosen for placement in the program, a "consent to place" form is also sent. Once this form is signed and returned, the newly selected GT students will begin receiving GT services.
If you do not agree with the committee's placement decision for your child, an appeals process is available.
